Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Ensure our three waters asset will stay in our possession and under our control.

  • Support the council policy regarding local control of Three Waters.

Introduce stronger deterrents for public vandalism, tagging and littering.

Commit to improving the frequency of council maintenance in our town of Kaiapoi.

  • We need to create better recycling options. Fortunately the technology is changing and improving all the time. We need to keep up with this.

I am totally against the Three Waters confiscation of our assets and what could be a significant increase in rates is not good for the people.
