Masterton District At Large
The Masterton District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. This election is for the three councillors elected by all voters in the district. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the district). This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Work closely with the youth council, youth partners and local businesses to engage and inspire employment for this demographic.

    Ensure Masterton has an annual stand out event like our sister towns to encourage visitors and financial benefits to our community.

    Engage with local business owners through a monthly workshop group that a council representative is part of. More support is needed here.

  • Work with the businesses and residents to address the town centre's need for upgrading.

    Encourage new business by entering agreements to subsidise rates on offices and buildings to assist with establishing costs.

    Lobby government for more funding for Mayors Taskforce for Jobs.

  • Commit to increase employment in the community.

    Work to increase open times for pubs till 2 am to help increase local economy.

    Commit to encouraging new businesses to start that will encourage youth to remain in the town for products and services.
