Napier City Council

Taradale Ward
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Four councillors will be elected from the Taradale ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Napier City Council election.

Why I'm standing

Every council needs diversity, this includes gender race, age and experience. I provide experience from three terms as a councillor including as chair of Prosperous Napier and a member of Audit and Risk. This is important for future councils.

About me

I will bring over twenty years of experience as a senior executive in the not-for-profit sector. This includes chief executive of a sporting organisation, a disability organisation and an age care organisation. These are all key areas of our community that need representation. I am a strategic thinker who bases his decisions on evidence rather than following someone else's lead. I have lived in Napier for the past 20 years.

My priorities
  1. Ensure Taradale is appropriately represented in future councils post Māori Ward introduction.
  2. Find an affordable solution to the swimming pool debacle.
  3. Ensure Taradale gets its share of development being a 33% contributor to rates.
Current role

Taradale Ward Councillor, Chair of Prosperous Napier.
