Nelson City Council

Nelson City At Large
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the three councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city.) This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I have loved serving our city as your councillor and working to address the big issues impacting our people. We're facing significant future challenges and we need leadership that can front up to these issues, that's engaged with our community, and can bring people together to effect change. I want to work for Nelsonians and ensure we deliver a city that allows everyone to thrive, and to lead a council that reflects its residents.

About me

I have connections across our community and local businesses, and have a clear track record of evidence-based, principled, and consistent decision-making. As your councillor I have been an effective voice for both our largest and most significant issues and for the local issues that can really impact people. We need a mayor that can bring people together and I have the connections, experience, and temperament to do so, and will lead a council that delivers.

My priorities
  1. Ensuring we're a strong city, with affordable housing, quality infrastructure and a strong economy.
  2. Building resilient communities, with thriving art, culture and sports sectors and a strong safety net.
  3. Taking bold climate action, to ensure our nature is protected and to provide for future generations.
