Nelson City Council

Nelson City At Large
The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the three councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city.) This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Nelson City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I have always stood very clear on my principles. I have been very consistent, dependable, working hard on championing the needs of Nelson community as your proven elected official. I will get Nelson back on its feet and moving forward again. Reintroduce genuine engagement and trust with our community. Ensuring we have an affordable, and a great place to grow families and enable local businesses to thrive.

About me

With nine years experience, and the only candidate holding Nelson City Council multi-portfolio chairmanship governance experience, I come as a mayor ready to hit the ground running to get this city back on its feet. Having formed huge relationships with our community, commercial leaders, iwi and organisations across the top of the south, we can move this greater region forward to ensure Nelson has a strong voice to ensure central government doesn't overlook Nelson's diverse interests.

My priorities
  1. Reprioritise our spending on flood protection, stormwater, core infrastructure and services investment.
  2. Keep debt and rates affordable. Ensure Nelson is the best place to raise a family. Not price residents out.
  3. Focus on mental, physical and environmental well-being of our city and people.
