Onepoto General Ward
The Porirua City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Five councillors will be elected from the Onepoto ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Continue to focus strongly on reducing sedimentation and pollution of our treasured harbour.

    Support council's impressive streamside planting programme. Bolster stream management especially where development is nearby.

    Focus on reducing waste and recycling, along with planning to compost food and green waste. We need to rethink our disposable culture.

  • Support and expand on water quality initiatives and planning.

    Drive more education for waste management and recycling.

  • Divert construction and demolition waste from landfill. It's more than half the waste problem, so let's get a demolition recycling facility.

    Keep the focus on riparian planting by Porirua's waterways. We've already committed the funding to help clean the water, let's get it done.

    Work with Greater Wellington Regional Council and Ngāti Toa to establish a predator free Onepoto Park and peninsula. Let's work together to get the rats and stoats out.
