Puketāpapa Local Board

The Puketāpapa Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of six members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Climate change and resilience

Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

    Support community organisations on awareness initiatives for residents to understand climate change requires participation by all of us.

  • Advocate for our neighbourhood with Piritahi and Kāinga Ora. To seek a better overall vision for our community.

    Use the arts as a tool for socials cohesion and connection between neighbours.

    Create a welcoming place for our new neighbours to join us in our neighbourhood that is about to be the size of Dunedin.

  • Supporting local communities to take personal action to live low-carbon lifestyles.

    Deliver more of Puketāpapa's Greenways network for safer, more pleasant ways to get around without a car, focusing on routes to school

    Advocating for better, more equitable transport options that reduce carbon emissions and pollution and progress a just transition.

  • Understand the effects of climate change locally.

    Promoting the advantages of electric cars.

  • Support expansion of the Puketāpapa Greenway Network to accelerate modal shift and get kids cycling and walking safely to school.

    Commit to expanding the Urban Ngahere tree planting program in areas with low tree cover.

    Advocating for increased funding to protect the Manukau Harbour from historic landfills through renewed seawalls.

  • Review Auckland Council's climate change targeted rate.

    Make electric buses and ferries more available and expand electric vehicle chargers in public car parks throughout Auckland.

    Revise Auckland Council's emissions reduction plans, focus areas – sustainable transport, built, natural environments to reduce emissions.

  • Strengthening public spaces through restoring our footpaths near arterial roads to enable safe travel for wheelchairs and bikes.

    Supporting more community initiatives through grants such as community gardens, composting and tree planting.

    Advocating for more waste management options in residential and communal areas that enable more people to compost and recycle.

  • Support the continuation of half-price public transport to reduce congestion and emissions in Auckland.

    Commit to Auckland Council halving its carbon emissions by 2030.

    Ensure that council's civil defence plans for Auckland city are well thought out, prepared and resourced with the right people.
