Mayor of Rotorua

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Rotorua District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

To pull ourselves out of the current strife we are experiencing I will bring my years of experience in business and government. Today Rotorua needs a mayor who can talk to the government, and someone with the financial acumen to push back on council debt and operational costs. I am a consulting economist and have served two parliamentary terms. I will work smartly and passionately towards Rotorua thriving together.

About me

I am a proud Rotorua local. I am married and have been with my wife for 27 years. We have two daughters. I will bring years of business experience as a business educator, business advisor and mentor to the role. I have years of experience in central government which will be vital when working with government on local solutions. I am offering a clean broom and a fresh start to council.

My priorities
  1. Fix Fenton Street. Hold the government accountable and see solutions fast. Which must include more homes.
  2. Grow our economy by supporting, tourism, forestry and agriculture. Make it easier for development.
  3. Balance the books and bring down council debt.
