Ruapehu District Council

Ruapehu General Ward
The Ruapehu District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Six councillors will be elected from the Ruapehu General ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing

My focus will be to create and retain jobs; increase the ratepayer base by promoting the building of affordable homes, social housing, and papakāinga housing supported by sustainable infrastructure. Attract commercial businesses to retain spend in our region. Assist community organisations build their capability to support our growing population. Promote Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation that enables vibrant engaging communities. Develop a genuine relationship with iwi reflecting the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

About me

I am committed to the Sustainable Development Goals to ensure health and wellbeing of our people and our planet. I will continue to advocate for Te Tiriti o Waitangi, where our tupuna and ancestors sought to establish a true partnership where dreams and aspiration can become a reality without prejudice or discrimination.

My priorities
  1. Increase the ratepayer base for our region by promoting the building of more houses.
  2. Attract more commercial businesses to retain our ratepayer spend in our own region
  3. Build meaningful power sharing relationships with iwi in the region
