Rolleston Ward
The Selwyn District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Rolleston ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Establish a paid community advisory group that is representative of township and district demographics, so that council hears more voices.

    Resource mana whenua to participate in appropriate decision-making within their rōhe, giving effect to hapū aspirations and te Tiriti.

    Support staff and contractors by implementing the Living Wage, flexible working as needed, and incentivising sustainable transport choices.

  • Investigate citizen participation trial and/or other options to try to increase public engagement in council budgeting processes.

    Continue to support council fostering the relationships with local runanga.

  • Liase positively with Te Ruhikhika te Taumutu to ensure the environmental needs of the community are preserved and maintained.

    Complete robust and regular community consultations to monitor the needs of the residents.

    Provide clarity and transparency when making changes within the Rolleston Ward.

  • Increase public consultation.
