Lakes-Murchison Ward
The Tasman District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Lakes-Murchison ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Make a plan to enable investing in art and recreation back on track after reckless spending has left us without spare money.

  • Support community initiatives to improve access to health, sports and recreation facilities.

    Promote the development of Borlase Forest for mountain biking, horse riding, motor bike riding, and pig hunting.

    Ensure the council, given the financial incentive to take private over public land, has policy in on how land is procured for cycle trails.

  • Support development of a community hub for Tapawera.

    Support new playground and upgrade to pump/BMX track at Murchison sports centre.

    Continue work on a new community facility at Wakefield or Brightwater.

  • Boost volunteer groups. Assure them of their importance, our encouragement and their forthcoming resurgence/leadership into the resource based economy future.

    Celebrate the paradigm shifting transition we are entering. Utopia beckons, the darkest hours are just before dawn. We are almost there.
