Lakes-Murchison Ward
The Tasman District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Lakes-Murchison ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Support the primary industry and ensure protection of productive land and zoning for allied industries that support the primary industries.

    Continue to work with the Nelson and Marlborough Councils and Waka Kotahi to support roading infrastructure.

  • Invest in higher learning and technology within the region, and not just low paid low skill jobs as pushed in the past.

    Enable more value add businesses to prosper rather exporting all our resources unprocessed.

  • Open and lead community-wide discussions/conversations on the long-term viability of the traditional money/business/competition/jobs model.

    Discuss and examine the potential opportunities presented by abandoning money entirely and adopting a money-free, resource based economy.

    Research and survey supply chains and their inter-relationships to establish logistic strategy and long-term plans for proposed resource based economy model.

  • Instigate a review of tourism in the region with a view to improve environmental integrity. Reduce tourist numbers but retain profitability.

    Reform tourism sector to increase resilience before the next inevitable pandemic hits.

    Encourage the horticultural sector to explore working conditions that allow greater diversity in seasonal workforces.
