Tasman District Council

Lakes-Murchison Ward
The Tasman District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Lakes-Murchison ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Tasman District Council election.

Require retirement facilities to provide housing for nurses and other staff.

  • Support development within the Future Development Strategy 2022 development areas.

    Protect productive land.

Support intensification and affordable housing initiatives.

  • Listen to the needs and ambitions of all sectors of our society, prioritising mental, physical and community health and quality of life.

Verify whether we need more construction. Is this a housing crisis, or something bigger? Wouldn't we rather live closer to our loved ones?

Focus resources to repair, upgrade and refurbish/replace, for free, all sub-standard housing, prioritising the homes of the most neglected.

  • Address the lack of investment by the government in social housing in this region.

Give priority to development without excessive covenants to enable more people to build the homes that they can afford.

Push for more sustainable practices with regard to stormwater – if the government listens to the voice of the people over Three Waters.
