Tasman District Council

Motueka Ward
The Tasman District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Motueka ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Tasman District Council election.

  • Protect our clean drinking water for generations to come. Our decision-making must be informed by the future, not just our immediate needs.

Protect a healthy swimmable Motueka River as a right of passage for our community. It is a taonga and an important part of our culture.

Enable continued use of smart irrigation technology. Mitigate water waste through collaboration with industry and the wider community.

  • Improve and maintain water supply security and infrastructure.

Plan for the resilience of drinking water and stormwater infrastructure, and future proof against disasters.

Prioritise rainwater collection and storage in urban and rural catchments for water conservation.

  • Commit to listen, consult and keep connected to the community and key stakeholders through the development of Tasman's Freshwater Plan.

Continue the restoration of wetlands throughout the Motueka Ward as detailed in Tasman Wetlands for Water Quality and Freshwater Ecosystems.

  • Motueka has excellent water quality.

I will listen to any community concerns over these issues and if needed will work with the other councillors.

    To achieve improvements where needed.
