Tasman District Council

Motueka Ward
The Tasman District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Motueka ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Tasman District Council election.

  • Extend beyond protection to focus on the regeneration of our unique and special biodiversity for the benefit of future generations.

Focus efforts on waste reduction. The landfill is one of our biggest emitters. There is really no excuse for excessive waste in 2022.

Support grassroots initiatives that are leading the charge on conservation. Birdsong Trust, Janszoon, and Friends of Flora to name a few.

  • All the above issues with one exception are managed quite well in my opinion.

I will fight for a complete overhaul of the compliance division of the Tasman District Council! This division has caused misery to many of our residents.

Putting people first. Listening to our community's concerns over the above issues is what I am here for.

  • Continue working with communities to safeguard biodiversity-rich areas through restoration, predator control, and native tree planting.

Protect highly productive soils for regional food security to ensure food resilience for our future.

Support the creation of a circular economy, by investing in recycling, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating ecosystems.

  • Commit to listen, consult and keep connected to the community through the development of the Tasman Environmental Plan.

Continue to partner with the community to support community-led initiatives such as wetlands planting and pest control projects.

Review of enforcement policy that sees education and solutions as a primary outcome, enforcement and prosecution a last resort.
