Turangi-Tongariro General Ward
The Taupō District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Turangi-Tongariro ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Improve recycling and decrease landfill over the next three years to help reduce associated greenhouse gasses.

    Ensuring good policy is maintained and developed which keeps council moving towards carbon neutrality.

    Continue to strengthen an emergency response plan and ensure personnel are trained and on the ground both in governance and operations.

  • Ensure the climate change strategy and the adopted climate change directives are intertwined through all decision making.

    Ensure investments are identified that lead to significant impacts on emissions and identify cost-benefit opportunities to support reduction.

    Ensure that financial investment is socially and environmentally responsible.
