Turangi-Tongariro General Ward
The Taupō District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Turangi-Tongariro ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Complete the Turangi Events Centre and Playground developments, and work with the co-governance group on a fix and future for Waipāpa Res.

    Ensure funding and personnel for Turangi are sufficient to maintain developments on an ongoing basis.

    Actively promote alcohol and gambling harm reduction policies.

  • Focus on delivering recreational facilities Tūrangi Events Centre and Te Kapua park redevelopment. Encourage further Hapū/Council partnerships.

    Continue support for youth events and initiatives to ensure we are positively contributing and investing in the wellbeing of our legacy.

    Continue with the bilingual signage installation to ensure all of our public facilities celebrate our indigenous language.
