Turangi-Tongariro General Ward
The Taupō District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Turangi-Tongariro ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Work within the Manawhakahono a Rohe agreement to ensure a good co-governance model which will benefit all residents and ratepayers.

    Seek to collaborate with newly appointed Māori ward members to ensure the voice of Māori is well represented at the table.

    Work to re-establish Turangi-based full time gardeners/grounds workers.

  • Work in partnership with Māori Ward councillors, Tūrangitukua and Tūwharetoa to grow the Mana Whakahono and bring the aspirations to reality.

    Encourage the ongoing appointment of relationship engagement specialists district wide, making staff more visible and in reach of residents.

    Drive a culture of service, empowerment and innovation through council and into local communities, delivering for community and staff wellbeing.
