Turangi-Tongariro General Ward
The Taupō District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Turangi-Tongariro ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Protect our sources of water, ensuring any drinking water systems are robust, maintained and have multiple barriers to stop contamination.

    Ensure local community and biodiversity projects are supported to increase public education, awareness and participation.

    Create a waste management contract that is fit for purpose and delivers for our Tūrangi-Tongariro community.

  • Work to strengthen protections for the Great Lake and all its tributaries. Ensuring riparian plantings intensive farming is monitored.

    Ensure council has good collaborative practices in place with both Waikato Regional Council and DOC to monitor and enhance biodiversity.

    Push for stronger policy around mandatory recycling, reuse and recovery and stronger refuse site management.
