Waiheke Local Board

The Waiheke Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of five members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Pursue amendments to planning rules to facilitate community/papakainga style housing. The rules currently favour tourist accommodation.

    Oppose general intensification policies such as outlined in the governments National Policy Statement on Urban Development.

  • Advocate for minimising building consent cost for appropriate development, regulating a range of housing options.

    Advocate for rental accomodation for seniors which is warm and dry. They will be not-for-profit and include maintenance and power cost.

    Advocate for plan changes from visitor accomodation units to permanent dwelling for seniors.

  • Allow visitor accommodation units that are consented to be used for long-term rentals. Advocate for government housing and plan for assisted care.

    Work on a long term strategy to advocate for more homes for islanders, affordable warm dry rentals and co-housing models.

    Assist our people living in vans and who are homeless to have access to showers and water. Work on emergency accommodation for those in need.
