Waiheke Local Board

The Waiheke Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of five members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Create composting infrastructure and efficient collection and delivery of food waste, preventing removal from the island.

    Advocate for water sensitive designs to slow the speed of water and filtrate contaminants, regular maintenance, monitoring of table drains.

    Advocate for predator free 2050, intensively controlling and monitoring all predators to restore biodiversity.

  • Support community and Te Korowai O Waiheke predator control and eradication projects to move towards a predator free status.

    Continue support for the Waiheke Resources Trust wetlands project.

    Support the proposed Hakaimanga-Matiatia Marine Reserve and the introduction of further reduced take zones.

  • Increase wetland restoration, training local people to work in this area. Re-wilding to allow nature to thrive. Use locally sourced trees.

    Work closely with council to closely monitor examine consents on island, in terms of marinas and fragile areas. Stop helipad consents.
