Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board

Waimairi Subdivision
The Waimāero Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Try to get rubbish bins reinstated in council parks, particularly heavy use parks such as Avonhead Park.

    Push the local leaders to retain the control of three water assets with Christchurch City Council.

    Encourage residents to use Snap Send Solve app to report issues rather than venting out on social media.

  • More use of organic pest control and park sprays.

    Support for more public water aquifers. There's a great one that is heavily used in Burnside Park.

    Keep up the good work on recycling.

  • Develop methods to reduce and recycle wastes and fund universities and companies to bring innovative ideas to recycle waste.

    Work with Taumata Arowai to remove chlorine from the water supply and bring all well heads above the ground level to avoid campylobacter.

    Introduce enforcements to dog owners those who do not dispose the fecal matters properly.
