Wainuiomata Community Board

The Wainuiomata Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Hutt City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Wainuiomata Community Board election.

Transport

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Bus stops in Wainuiomata all need bus shelters, and we need more of the signs telling us where and when buses will arrive to.

We need new bus stops where needed, eg 160 bus to the end of Wise Street with building there.

We need potholes on roads, and footpaths fixed properly and be safe for all.

  • Look at our options and what's being done about our exploding population and still only one road in and out.

Think outside the square about transport for Wainuiomata based on proven models and systems overseas.

Push for potential new ways to make public transport more appealing and cheaper.

  • Raise the issue of a bus exchange in Wainuiomata and increased services to make the community more accessible and connected.

  • A bus route that goes into town or at least further than just central Hutt.

More frequent buses between the 160-170 for day-to-day transport and backups in case of cancellations due to strikes.

I am currently against a second access route into Wainui and will not be pushing for this to happen.
