Wainuiomata Community Board

The Wainuiomata Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Hutt City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Wainuiomata Community Board election.

Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Advocate for better city planning so that the necessary intensification doesn't come at a cost to existing infrastructure.

  • Wainui is not the place for dense housing but if the council is to continue I will improve transport and industry to support this density.

    Push against hostile architecture that stops the homeless from resting in public spaces and stops skateboarders from skating there.

    Review spending on local streetscapes and community space renovations. For example, I would've reviewed Queen St Reno closer before approval.

  • Help everyday folks navigate resource and building consents so they can profit from sharing their land (not just big development companies).

  • We need more council housing available to more people including the disadvantaged, eg those with disabilities, families etc.

    We need affordable housing for all across the city.

    We need to provide more for the homeless, eg shelters at night to go to, meals etc.
