Waipā District Council

Pirongia-Kakepuku General Ward
The Waipā District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the Pirongia-Kakepuku General ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Facilitate reliable and affordable public transport.

    Increase the quality and safety of existing roads including rural areas.

  • Support walking and cycling incentives. Gets people outside enjoying our beautiful countryside. Takes time to plan and build these.

    Work locally with council transportation staff in the road safety space. Asking questions as to why this or that can't be implemented.

    Providing in the future better public transport both in the urban and if possible rural settlements. Encourage public transport.

  • Ensure the Cambridge Connections Project takes a broad view on options and solutions to projected congestion and the need to curb emissions.

    Support urban mobility programmes to encourage more safe cycling and walking.

    Maximise Waka Kotahi co-funding for transportation infrastructure to keep rates as low as possible while delivering improvements.
