The Waipā District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Te Awamutu-Kihikihi ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Support the proposed creation of more council housing at affordable rents within our district and the creation more emergency housing.

    Continue to allow district plan changes to release land for urban development, but take regard of local highly productive soils.

    Aware that current government legislation for urban development will create significant infrastructure problems for Waipā Council.

  • Stop rezoning suburbs to stop the proposed higher density housing. Create pensioner housing as Waipā District Council has a greying population.

    Stop any subdivisions for the time being. Ensure that our towns stay as the rural towns as they are.
