Coastal Subdivision
The Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Create community/shared spaces that help balance increased housing density.

    Carry out a needs analysis of current council housing in response to homelessness and respond accordingly.

    Keep community as a central focus in the issuing of building consents.

  • Advocate to retain and further support Ōtautahi Community Housing Trust housing.

    Ensure that streets are safer, and every person can grow up near a park.

    Where appropriate, support dense housing where infrastructure deems it appropriate.

  • Ensure that our community has better and safer infrastructure for families.

    Invest in providing security cameras for our community.

  • Advocate for and support residents affected by the District Plan changes regarding Coastal Hazards restrictions and limitations.

    Ensure our infrastructure and utilities are capable of handling the intensification we are currently seeing, now and in the future.

    Continue to push for the master plan improvements on New Brighton mall, the Oram Ave extension and improvements on the ramps and foreshore.
