Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Support community initiatives to promote recycling, eg community garage sales or street side days.

Increase signage to ensure people understand rules relating to animal control in public places.

Introduce smart bins in heavily used public places.

  • Listen to, and represent, the view of our community on Three Waters.

Ensure that rates are affordable and not wastefully spent.

Support our residents with their concerns regarding dog control, especially on the beach and estuary foreshores – more signage and education.

  • Ensure that our drains are cleared prior to significant weather events, to help prevent flooding we are already seeing.

That services are in place that actually deal with the rubbish problem across our ward, and ensuring bins are returned to busy areas.
