The Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • It's time our infrastructure is prioritised. Roads, footpaths and other infrastructure will be done right, the first time.

    Streets are safer: basic things like correct lighting and flat footpaths are essential to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our ward.

    Push to ensure that New Brighton road remains open.

  • Address road safety concerns, particularly where the safety of our tamariki is at stake.

    Ensure that footpaths are level and free from hazards.

    Commit to the replacement of Pages Road bridge.

  • Ensure the safety of all road users (pedestrian, cycle, car, bus) by providing appropriate, well maintained infrastructure.

    Support schools and preschools to create 'walking buses' during Summer months.

    Ensure public transport is reliable and meets community needs.

  • Keep the pressure on regarding our overdue earthquake road repairs and bridge replacements, Pages Rd and Anzac Dr bridges and New Brighton Rd.

    Advocate for links in our cycleway network to help encourage safer cycling as we do currently have many lanes and alleyways under utilised.

    Keep pushing for recreational paths along our rivers, the forest and red zones of South Brighton, New Brighton, Bexley, and Brooklands.
