Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board

Coastal Subdivision
The Waitai Coastal-Burwood-Linwood Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local government is a foundational part of our democracy. But local democracy isn’t just about holding elections every three years – it’s about the day-to-day ways people have their say in the decisions that affect us all.

Local government is a foundational part of our democracy. But local democracy isn’t just about holding elections every three years – it’s about the day-to-day ways people have their say in the decisions that affect us all.

  • Provide a short summary (written/video) of what is scheduled for discussion/consideration at community board and the outcomes of meetings.

    Work to remove barriers to effective communication between staff and the community.

    Offer regular weekly meeting with community board member opportunities.

  • Ensure that all residents of our community are given the opportunity for their voice to be heard.

  • Keep pushing for a much needed change for genuine consultation and engagement between government departments, the council and our residents.

    Advocate for changes in council process which directly relate to projects by getting community input before staff create a 'firm' plan.

    Try for more open communication between staff and elected members in order to acquire information and help achieve desired outcomes for all.

  • Digital democracy – ensuring board meetings are accessible and available, both in person and online to ensure our community is heard.

    Push for more support to community boards. They play a huge role in our ward and it's important they have the ability to support us.

    I will ensure that I am present and actively listening to the needs of the community. After all, I am a young person who grew up here.
