Bream Bay General Ward
The Whangārei District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the Bream Bay ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Council needs a strategy that takes a comprehensive look at the district's needs and then clearly identifies actions that will address them.

    This will include a coordination role with multiple agencies and central government.

  • Create housing affordability. Council Housing. Building consents. Projections on urban growth.

    Create Rural Growth. Housing for retirement. Zoning area's to meet ease of growth.

  • Establish a easy to understand one page consent process for established builders. Monitored by demerit points for failure.

    Create positive rezoning for inner city living. Encouraging development in the right place with positive reduction in fees and rates.

    Encourage businesses outside the CBD to move back into the CBD by establishing a five year rate freeze/discount of relocation costs.
