Bream Bay General Ward
The Whangārei District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the Bream Bay ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Buy a new block of land for a second Kensington Park. Support the very good sport infrastructure all ready in place.

    Maintain all sports facilities to a high standard to attract international games in many codes. Promote Semenoff Stadium as a concert venue.

    Continue to support the general public in arts and culture and build the proposed new theatre at Forum North.

  • Review community infrastructure. Can we help/upgrade?

    Can we generate community events/festivals? Introduce tourist type events?

  • We need to develop the civic and arts centre on the Forum North site and create a parking strategy that brings free parking into town.

    We must promote inner city living and activate the link from town basin to the CBD. All of this will help develop a family-friendly city.

    The council needs to provide adequate funding for City Safe.
