Mangakahia-Maungatapere General Ward
The Whangārei District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Mangakahia-Maungatapere ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Introduce larger recycling bins and less refuse overtime with less complex criteria.

    Ensure wastewater is being treated correctly and infrastructure is able to cope.

    Improve funding for pest eradication. Take a no excuse option. Encourage the regional council to grow their investment in this area also.

  • Ensure we follow best practice in all of council involvement in and around our environment.

    Always aim for zero spill/harm to our environment in every facet of our work, ie waste, preservation, pest control, biodiversity.

    Continue our stance on protection of our Three Waters infrastructure and the Kaipara Remediation Project.
