Transport

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Footpaths in areas needed – elderly, pushchairs, erosion repairs etc.

    Harbour ferry down our coast.

    Rural shared walkways and cycleways.

  • Roading is massively underfunded. Government needs to be enlightened by a case study that shows the monetary return for all of that investment.

Secure a site that is zoned and consented for a future airport, if and when needed - this is a primary safeguard for our district and the north.

Focus on all infrastructure that attracts government subsidy is a priority for us. Gains achievement levels much higher than unsubsidised projects.
