The Albert-Eden Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Support better dog controls to ensure fewer roaming, dangerous and out-of-control dog attacks.

    Support better street sweeping and catchment and soak hole cleaning to help prevent flooding in areas where there is no storm water separation.

    Support weekly curb-side collection as the most effective way to reduce waste and support food scraps collection service.

  • Push Auckland Council to accept Three Waters legislation and allow for national funding of estate water services.

    Maintain waste collection and encourage the use of community composting efforts.

    Develop community recycling and waste reduction programmes.

  • Support dog owners by enhancing local dog parks and creating more safe, off-leash spaces for dogs to roam freely.

    Support local street cleaning events.

    Support pets and protect birds by working with cat owners to balance cat care and bird safety using solutions like bird-safe collars.

  • Fund programmes in community centres that have a direct impact on residents wellbeing, thus saving downstream health costs.

  • Continue the stormwater separation programme in areas with a combined stormwater and wastewater network.

    Push for initiatives to increase uptake of the food scraps collection service.

  • Ensure council provides all services effectively and with a cost-reduction focus.

    Work with Watercare to ensure they provide safe, reliable and affordable water and wastewater services, and ensure infrastructure for future needs.

    Ensure dog owners have nice places to run their dogs off-leash and that non-dog owners feel safe elsewhere.
