Innes Ward
The Christchurch City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 16 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). one councillor will be elected from the Innes ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Develop Mass Rapid Transport project by protecting the two identified corridors and attracting government co-funding to deliver.

    Make streets safe for all modes of transport including walking and cycling.

    Set 30km school speed limits around local schools.

  • Genuinely and actively seek to reinstate commuter and freight rail on existing lines north and south of Christchurch to reduce road traffic immediately.

    Review whatever ideology or policy that is informing the seemingly out of control speed hump installation. Some make the road more dangerous.

    Undertake a full review of traffic lights, including phasing and ghost pedestrian signals, to address unnecessary congestion.
