South Ward
The Hurunui District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the South ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Protect public access to coasts, reserves and Crown land so communities can enjoy them.

  • Engage in and promote a diverse range of sporting, outdoor, cultural and artistic community events in order to further connect people.

    Ensure maintenance and improvement of indoor and outdoor community spaces including continued development of the Village Green.

    Support safe walking and riding paths and connections and continue to work with community to establish a dog park.

  • Maintain sports and recreation facilities that are practical, affordable and well used.

    Promote local events and festivals that strengthen community spirit and pride.

    Support well-maintained parks, halls and community spaces that serve all residents.

  • Complete the Amberley Village Green as a multipurpose sports and passive recreation destination that the district can be proud of.

    Create a community hub facility and extend the capacity of the Amberley Library.

    Secure an appropriate site and develop a dog park in conjunction with stakeholder groups.

  • Ensure public spaces are fit for purpose and meet the needs of the growing community.

    Promote the broader Hurunui as a venue for community events and seek ways to engage event marketers to consider the area.

    Work with broader sporting bodies to promote Amberley as a sporting venue for youth and adult sport.
