Mayor of Kāpiti
The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
I have had a successful business career and want to bring my strong leadership, financial management and community service skills and experience to Council for the betterment of our community. I believe financial management skills have been sadly lacking in elected members for decades and it is time to focus on this as we have a rates affordability crisis. I believe we have some tough decisions to make and need to work together to make them.
About me
I have lived in Kapiti for 25 years as a business owner and have a solid background in management, particularly financial management. I have had a number of roles in the community as chair of the Chamber of Commerce, president of Kapiti Rotary, deputy chair of the Nikau Foundation, trustee of the Creative Kapiti Charitable Trust and co-founder of the Kapiti Wellbeing Collective. I love living in such a caring and supportive community.
My priorities
- Increase focus on financial management within Council to reduce costs.
- Significantly improve community engagement so that Council delivers what the community wants.
- Explore alternative funding sources for activities that are important but not core Council services.
