Mayor of Kāpiti

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kapiti Coast District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

As our children have started university and are pursuing professional careers, I am 100% committed to resolving short-sighted thinking and delivering long-term objectives that are cost effective while being community focused. Return the family unit to the Kapiti region and enable a prosperous future for the entire community to enjoy. Advocate for the government to deliver social services such as medical and education, which appear to have been overlooked by many previous administrations.

About me

Having owned successful businesses since 1984, always focused on quality service delivery with excellent client liaison and negotiation skills, while delivering satisfaction across most industry sectors including government and agency. Upon returning to Kapiti in 1999, I established a new business with my wife of 27 years, who is an accountant and economist.

My priorities
  1. Manage debt leaks to enable interest costs and fees to reduce pressure on rates.
  2. Recognise the Local Government Rating Act: rates are set by the previous year's council expenses.
  3. Include community feedback in council decision-making, including taking meetings to the community.
