Mayor of Kāpiti

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kapiti Coast District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

To make a difference and to work the organisation. Having moved to Kapiti 15 years ago, I love the place. I've brought up my kids and had hospitality businesses in Paraparaumu and been involved in community groups. I have 35 years' experience as a hospitality entrepreneur and business owner and have six years full time as the Paraparaumu Ward councillor. I want to continue to apply that skill set for the benefit of my community.

About me

Attitude, knowledge and skill set. Council is a large and complex business. It takes time to accumulate the knowledge, understandings and relationships to be effective, which I have done. Interestingly, the councillor role is considered part time, but my commitment to the role has been full time for both trienniums. Thirty-five year business background and six years as councillor mean I get things done and would like the opportunity to work at KCDC at the mayoral level.

My priorities
  1. Bring rates back in line with the 5% ceiling of average household income. It went past last long-term plan.
  2. Support KCDC becoming a unitary authority and absorbing the responsibilities of Regional Council.
  3. Improve health services including 24-hour urgent care and linkage to Wellington hospital as identified by community consultation.
