Mayor of Kāpiti

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kapiti Coast District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Leadership starts at the top, and when times are tough, we all have to tighten our belts. The decision of two mayoral candidates to authorise a $50,000 pay rise followed by a $43,000 overseas trip while rates rose over 30% shows that we need fresh leadership. As your mayor, I will make sure that when we spend your money, we spend it wisely.

About me

My wife Jo and I live in Otaihanga with our two teenage children, and our extended family are based in Levin. This is our community, we live here, we care deeply about it, and we want it to thrive. With experience in both public and private sectors – including running my own business, leading an NGO, and working for a Cabinet Minister, I offer fresh, transparent and experienced leadership that Kāpiti needs now.

My priorities
  1. Make council work for you by ensuring an open, transparent council that listens and communicates.
  2. Ensure that when spending money, it is spent wisely so rate rises can be controlled.
  3. Get the balance right between development and uncontrolled intensification to create planned growth.
