Marlborough Sounds General Ward
The Marlborough District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). three councillors will be elected from the Marlborough Sounds ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Strengthen coastal ecosystems by enhancing natural areas and defending against invasive species that threaten biodiversity.

  • Support the Restoration Trust pest eradication program for the Marlborough Sounds to regenerate plant and bird life.

  • Focus on basics including street cleaning, graffiti removal, mowing and care of parks and open spaces.

    Invest in wastewater infrastructure so sewage does not pollute local waterways, harbours or beaches.

    Oppose any plan to reduce bin collection frequency because residents expect reliable services they already pay for.

  • Enable groups such as PDC and Ngakuta Trapping group to continue to operate to ensure biodiversity is protected and pests eradicated.

    Encourage and reward sustainable primary industry practices that minimise siltation and erosion damage to waterways and marine environments.

    Encourage the ongoing support of environmental projects such as Te Hoiere that benefit whole of catchment groups and communities.
