Marlborough Sounds General Ward
The Marlborough District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). three councillors will be elected from the Marlborough Sounds ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Review civic facilities and develop long-term planning to enhance and/or introduce new ones where necessary.

  • Celebrate Marlborough's unique story through public spaces and education, honouring our past and inspiring future generations.

    Encourage youth sport initiatives that build confidence, connection and lifelong well-being across Marlborough communities.

    Support vibrant community events and festivals that enrich Marlborough lives, strengthen identity and welcome visitors to our region.

  • Investigate opportunities for new events or festivals that bring youth into the region and provide fun for those already residing here.

    Upgrade and enlarge existing sporting facilities so that they can attract national teams and be used as true sporting hubs.

    Upgrade community halls to be true hubs for communities in times of emergency but which can also bring communities together for fun.

  • Develop a strategy and communication program to double the number of events and festivals and equitably spread them across the region.

    Review the Premier Reserve policy to ensure investment is equitable and value based.
