Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Cancel the plan to build a dump at Smooth Hill and explore more sensible options.
Continue educating and better informing dog owners to promote responsible ownership, safer communities and improved animal welfare.
Manage drinking water, wastewater and sewerage – our Three Waters – responsibly to ensure safe, reliable and affordable services.
Ensure all streets are cleaned regularly and weeds are removed. Ensure Three Waters are maintained as expected by the community.
Establish a full understanding of what utilities and services are scheduled to be upgraded and monitor all uncompleted projects to completion.
Find what is needed to ensure compliance with animal control and dog licensing and ensure all laws are followed for safety for all.
Advocate for efficient stormwater drainage systems.
Increase public rubbish bins in popular walking areas to combat littering and unpicked-up dog poo.
Raise awareness towards proper recycling and waste disposal methods.
Add further recycling hubs for the Taieri in line with the trial facility at Momona.
Investigate options for incorporating and rewarding a good dog owner licence into dog registration for the city.
Ensure routine water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure assessments and upgrades are carried out in a timely manner.
Commence the new rubbish collection and refuse area on Smooth Hill sooner rather than later.
Repair and maintain footpaths on Gordon and Factory Road professionally, addressing years of neglect.
