Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board

The Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Advocate for a heavy traffic by-pass to increase safety for pedestrians and children.

    Call on DCC to implement a rental WOF inspection service to ensure healthy homes, preventing possible tension between tenants and landlords.

    Prioritise accessibility for urban spaces and streetscapes with healthy footpaths, pedestrian crossings, more curb cuts and better bus stops.

  • Allow sensible rezoning of land supply and zoning on the Taieri to enable progress, housing and development to move forward responsibly.

    Streamline building consents in DCC to create faster, clearer processes that reduce costs, support growth and encourage community development.

  • Build affordable housing to address the lack of suitable housing in Mosgiel.

    Carefully assess rezoning fertile farmland when consents are requested.

    Maintain policies that improve the presentation of Mosgiel. Recent rebuilding of Housing Commission houses has helped.

  • Check water tightness of houses in the area from the outside and again try and engage support agencies, eg Kāinga Ora and Salvation Army.

    Continue to monitor the area for homeless and ask to allow a support team to help them gain long-term shelter.

    Establish relationships with developers, property sellers and trades to increase the stock of houses.

  • Support council to make sensible town planning decisions rather than piecemeal plans that do not address infrastructure requirements.

    Support council to make zoning decisions for Mosgiel to allow more two level infill housing where suitable.
