Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board

The Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board election.

Local government is a foundational part of our democracy. But local democracy isn’t just about holding elections every three years – it’s about the day-to-day ways people have their say in the decisions that affect us all.

  • Continue to engage all cultures in the community like I have for the years that I have lived here. I love seeing all cultures in the area.

    Engage with the community on a one-to-one basis instead of a confrontational one to six basis as more relaxed submitters will give better information.

    Seek more community interaction from all parts of the community and also respect all the cultures that make up these communities.

  • Engage with the community by holding monthly street meetings.

    Invite the mayor to board meetings, which has not happened during my six years on the board.

    Move community board meetings around the Taieri area.

  • Enhance efficiency and accountability through reforms to council size while reducing unnecessary costs to ratepayers.

    Review council employee wages and conditions to ensure fairness while delivering value for money to ratepayers.

  • Advocate for Mosgiel and Taieri to the council and work collaboratively to support local communities.

    Honour Te Tiriti and actively engage with mana whenua, fostering genuine partnership in decision-making.

    Re-envision public engagement and consultations with the board to be inclusive, accessible and approachable.

  • Actively promote local liaison groups specific to the Taieri, eg Lower Taieri flood liaison group.

    Create regular updates for Taieri residents and business owners on flood protection planning.

    Ensure council and government consider Taieri infrastructure alongside plans for moving port operations to inland hubs on the Taieri.
