Ahuriri General Ward
The Napier City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). three councillors will be elected from the Ahuriri ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Collaborate with airlines, iwi and tourism operators to advocate for routes that support Napier's economy and visitor experience.

    Support the upgrade of bridges and lifeline routes for resilience against floods, storms and quakes.

    Work with HBRC to improve routes and connections, making public transport a real alternative to driving.

  • Advocate for an improved public transport system in the city and work with the regional council to achieve this outcome.

    Lobby for safer road crossings for children walking and scooting to school especially on busy roads.

    Support car-free areas in the central city to reduce traffic congestion and make it more pleasant for locals, shoppers and tourists.

  • Focus transport budgets on fixing potholes, resurfacing roads and upgrading key routes.
