Selwyn District Council

Selwyn At Large
The Selwyn District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. This election is for the two councillors elected by all voters in the district. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the district). This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Selwyn District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I believe Selwyn needs steady, well-reasoned leadership with seven councillors standing down. I am standing to combine my legal and governance expertise with the community's knowledge to restore consensus-driven decision-making and careful stewardship of every ratepayer dollar. I want to protect core services, keep rates fair and ensure growth is matched with infrastructure so Selwyn remains a great place to live, work and farm.

About me

I am a former commercial litigator, leaky home advocate and governance adviser for not-for-profits and sports organisations. These roles taught me to break down complex issues, test advice against facts, build consensus and make decisions that stand up to scrutiny. I will listen first, communicate clearly and apply the same fair process to every community. My goal is to earn trust through openness, consistency and putting Selwyn's long-term interests first.

My priorities
  1. Collect developer contributions early so growth funds its own infrastructure, protecting ratepayers.
  2. Use debt wisely to spread long-life infrastructure costs while tightening other spending.
  3. Strengthen community balance so rural, small-town and urban priorities are equally considered.
