Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Make steady progress in all aspects including requesting a delay in offering up reforms for water services to central government to allow time to rethink.
Develop a cost effective peak season rubbish collection strategy focused on government tourism funding to relieve the burden on ratepayers.
Finalise the water services delivery plan and work on longer term solutions for Three Waters delivery for cost effective solutions for ratepayers.
Introduce a responsible dog owner assessment policy which provides a discounted licence fee for qualifying dog owners.
