Mayor of Wellington
The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Why I'm standing
I want our city to be able to afford to deliver sustainable outcomes I believe most Wellingtonians want. I want to double down on the things that make us great a great place to live and I want us to be a city that people move to, and stay in, for great job opportunities. I ran for election because I was not seeing any candidate pitch a compelling strategy for how to achieve this.
About me
I've worked in leadership positions on housing and city infrastructure deals worth over a billion dollars and overseen delivery of complex, award-winning projects on time and budget. As a qualified accountant with deep financial management expertise, I can rigorously interrogate information to ensure robust decision-making. I will make the hard calls needed to achieve positive, sustainable outcomes for Wellington, while applying the strong, pragmatic financial management required to keep our city affordable, resilient, and future-focused.
My priorities
- Focus on affordability, meaning affordable rates, rents, house prices and transport costs.
- Grow jobs by increasing the number of successful businesses and their ability to employ people in the city.
- Focus on sustainability including climate change action and doubling down on conservation programmes.
